The areas at the top and the bottom are something that can be worked with, but I am not really digging the content and sidebar areas. The content and sidebar area seems so simple and just detract from the mockup.
Color-wise, I am fine with, but perhaps with the site title and by-line, just a smidgen of color would help make it pop.
Why dashes? Why not a little web 2.0 rounded sleek corners? The portfolio listing for each item should each have their own little rounded box area and instead of looking tablish, insert a left-float with wrap around on text. OR what I have been seeing is listing the image (or image with short description to read more) and each project has its own page as a case study.
